About 30 percent to 40 percent of U.S. women suffer from some form of sexual dysfunction, according to an article in the April, 2009 publication of Nature Reviews Urology. But is Viagra for women a reality? Could it be a reality? Even though nearly 1.7 million webpages contain the Google search term “Viagra for Women,” the fact of the matter is, the FDA has not approved a form of Viagra for Women. Many researchers and pharmaceutical companies have made progress in either 1) identifying how the woman’s body works and/or 2) identifying chemical components/medications that they say can have a positive effect on a woman’s sexual experience, whether it be increasing blood flow such as Viagra does, or by other means such as the libido. One example is Flibanserin, a medication invented in Germany and being investigated as a drug for women diagnosed with decreased sexual desire. Another noteworthy recent endeavor was undertaken by the Medical College of Georgia, where they discovered that Viagra could have an effect on a key artery in women. This in turn, could lead to a different approach to help women, through a physical solution – if you will – rather than through a physiological or psychological manner to treat libido. There are many authoritative articles about “Viagra for Women” on the internet, one of the most comprehensive of which is located at Discovery Health.
